LUDHIANA: The old damp and dilapidated PSEB power sub stations are likely to get a face-lift in Ludhiana despite the financial crunch the board has continued to face for the past few years.
B P S Gill, Additional SE, PSEB, Ludhiana who is heading SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) eagerly awaiting the modernization in the city’s power stations.
Gill informed that Tata Consultant Services (TCS), the official consultants of the board have studied the system, framed the requirements, and submitted the feasibility report with the board.
He expects the project to take off in another couple of months. Enthusiastic about the impending changes, Gill, informs how the centres and sub stations have functioned and operated manually so far.
The parameters were taken down manually by the employees, and if the power tripped, it had to be manually restored from the control room.
All this is about to go through a sea change, with the stepping in of the SCADA. SCADA is to work in two parts. One, it has unified control centre at the Mini secretariat complex, where Master controls would be stationed, linked with all the sub-stations.
By using fibre optics, the data would be programmed to automatically get logged into the computers.
The data will be digital, and all parameters will be fed in. Second, with centralised controls the switches and brakes can be operated automatically from one central control room.
Gill explains SCADA would necessarily bring in better and continuous supply of power to the residents, and it would help though in a little way for leakage in power as well.
To get the best results for the latter, Gill explains that PSEB is trying to make Energy Counting Module proposal a part of the package, such that leakage is checked more effectively. He informs there is 15 per cent technical and commercial leakage in Ludhiana.
